Megan Meier Day: October 17th Each Year
This day was created by a few students in Australia several years ago. They choose October 17th each year (the day Megan passed away) to not only remember Megan in a positive way, but to raise awareness about bullying, cyberbullying, and suicide.
On this day, we remember Megan and the life she had as well as the life she deserved. We remember that bullying and cyberbullying are senseless acts that can have devastating effects and could ultimately ruin lives.
On October 17th, we gather together to take a stand against bullying and cyberbullying to ensure that such a tragedy does not happen again! Schools and organizations across the nation participate in their own way to help spread awareness.
On Megan Meier Day we remember that each and every life is valuable, we remember that words hurt and can take lives like Megan's.
Megan Meier Day can be observed in many ways, here are examples on how you and your school can show your support:
You can celebrate life by passing out balloons and encouraging notes in your community.
Megan loved black and white polka dots. She would paint her fingernails and toenails with black finger nail polish and use a toothpick to put on white dots, she would wear the ribbons in her hair and around her wrist.
In Megan's honor, you can wear black and white clothing or accessories to help spread awareness about bullying, cyberbullying, and suicide.
Your school and community could have a black and white balloon launch to show unity and support our anti-bullying movement.
You can create a sign or poster in loving memory of Megan. Our goal is to let others know that there is help and people do care!
You can create a unique way to show your support for Megan Meier Day. Anything you do to create awareness may help another person without you even knowing!
We encourage you and your school to participate in Megan Meier Day every October 17th and share with us the creative ways in which you were able to raise awareness on the issues of bullying and cyberbullying.
